About Eastern Iowa Diaper Bank
A collaboration between YPN (Young Parents Network) and Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) and our community partners.
WHAT IS THE DIAPER BANK
YPN (Young Parents Network) and the Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC), and HACAP/WIC serve children and families on a daily basis. The majority of those served are low-income families and both organizations saw a common need: Diapers. So simple, yet so important.
Some of the most financially stressed parents can also spend nearly 14 percent of their paycheck on diapers. For them, the lack of diapers can make the difference between being able to pay rent, put food on the table, or even take a child to daycare so they themselves can go to work.
Seeing the hardship that diaper costs has created for some of the community’s most vulnerable families, the Eastern Iowa Health Center and YPN have collaborated to create the Eastern Iowa Diaper Bank. Eastern Iowa Diaper Bank distributed more than 600k diapers to participants and community members in 2020. Our mission is simple: To provide families in need with diapers. Currently, the Eastern Iowa Diaper Bank is serving clients of EIHC and YPN.
The Eastern Iowa Diaper Bank is a member of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN). The network is leading a national movement to safeguard one of the most basic needs of all babies and their families, access to clean, dry diapers. Access to clean diapers improves the physical, mental and economic well-being of babies, families, and communities.
OUR COLLABORATORS
Founded in 1985 by community leaders who recognized that there was a lack of support for young families in Cedar Rapids, YPN programs nurture parents and children to support healthy family dynamics and positive futures. Thanks to the extensive collaborative relationships that have been formed in the community, YPN is often the first point of contact for families who are in need of additional support. Prior to 2020, Andy and his fiancé, had never needed to utilize a community service. Andy shares, “I have always worked and was able to provide for my family, so it was humbling to admit that we needed a hand.” After seeing a news article, they quickly got in line. “When we arrived and saw the line of cars, it was evident that this organization truly cared about those in need after such a rough year – I don’t know what we would’ve done without them.”
